I've been beating my head against this for a while, so I thought I
might see if anyone else had tried the same successfully. In a
nutshell, what I did was to make a VMware drive
(preallocated/monolithc IDE) and install Windows and miscellaneous
software on it. I then ran Sysprep to reset the machine SIDs and
device information. I then shut down VMware, and from a remote machine
did a dd dump to the remote disk using the VMware disk file mounted
over NFS. I then deleted the resulting partition, recreated it to span
the entire disk and set bootable, and ran ntfsresize. All of these
tools were run from the linux diskutils livecd, btw. After booting,
the machine will either boot partially and say inaccessible boot
device, or with more recent attempts, it will refuse to start booting
Windows. The partitiion is readable in the windows recovery console,
and from linux, but will never boot. Any ideas?
