Mac and Linux??

I came into possession of an almost new IMac which I didn't want and I
have absolutely no use for a machine that has no command line:-) At least
I have heard that it doesn't. Since I have no experience on Apple stuff I
wouldn't know how to get to one anyway.

But, it is a really neat looking piece of gear and I suddenly wondered if
Linux would load and run? If so, what version? - certainly not I386.
Plus, is there a FAQ/Tutorial/Manual for using Linux on Macs. All I have
is I386 distros so there is no need to try to boot one of my CDs.
