Maybe he didn't create the filesystem with mkfs.ext3, because he talks
about "formatting" the partition with cfdisk, and cfdisk just creates
the partitions, but then he have to create the filesystem with
mkfs.ext3. Obviously I'm talking about a new partition, doing this in
an existing partition WILL DESTROY all the data you have in that
partition.
