I'm trying to setup my first proftpd server.
I want all the accounts to be specific to proftpd - my users with
shell accounts don't need ftp access.
So far, I've been able to create separate ftp user accounts using
AuthUserFile and AuthGroupFile. And I can lock these users into
separate directories which I've created in /home/ftp/ftproot.
My problem is that I want to have an upload directory, but I cannot
get uploads to work unless the (Linux) permissions are set to 777.
This sucks. If /upload is owned by ftp/ftp and proftpd is running as
ftp/ftp why can't I get this working with permissions more restrictive
than 777?
What is the correct way to set up permissions, and owner/group on my
upload dir, or am I stuck with 777? Or is there something else I'm
overlooking?
