I get 4x speeds regularly. And k3b in FC2 doesn't use cdrecord to burn DVDs,
it uses growisofs, as you will discover if you will simply click the
"debug" button on the burning dialog.
I suspect the problem is either your DVD r/w drive or the DVDs you are
using.
