SuSE 9.1 + Dell 2650 + aacraid = problems

I recently tried to upgrade a client's Dell PowerEdge 2650 with I think
a PERC 3/DI RAID controller--the one that uses the Linux aacraid module.
It's been running fine under SuSE 8.1 (kernel 2.4.x), but it didn't work
at all well under SuSE 9.1 (kernel 2.6.x).
It seemed to boot up OK after the upgrade, until I did an rsync to copy
the entire /home disk (actually a pair of mirrored disks) to a backup
machine. Within a short while, all accesses to that disk caused a hang.
Looking through /var/log/messages, I saw an "oops" message which
indicated some kind of crash in the reiserfs module. However, I suspect
the culprit is more likely to be the aacraid module. Surprising that the
system kept running after that...
Some weeks previously I had done a similar upgrade to the backup
machine, which is identical in hardware configuration except it doesn't
have a RAID controller. That worked fine.
Thoughts, anyone? I looked on linux.dell.com, but there seems to be no
mention there of using aacraid with a 2.6 kernel.
Thanks for any help.
