A Word of Explanation For Newcomers

It looks like a whole bunch of spamfighting experts are united in
their condemnation of SPF and Challlenge-Responses, doesn't it?

Wrong! What you are seeing are mostly the sock-puppets of a few
spammers that cannot stand any spamfighting strategies that
actually work, for obvious reasons. (and some professionals
invested in out-moded filters)

They do this ever time the above subjects come up, even though
they have already lost this battle: Earthlink, one of the major
ISPs, now uses Challenge-Responses, and many lesser ones have
been using them for years.

But then, spammers are the petty criminals of the IT world, so it
really isn't reasonable to expect them to demonstrate any real
intelligence, is it?

Just ignore the fools. One of them is a viscious troll who is,
literally, a mental patient.

Don't believe me? Try tracking down most of the "people" who are
posting on those threads. You won't be able to do it. They don't
_exist_.

Start with the Usenet Archives at Google:

..and take a *real* close look at their headers. Linux/Unix
users should do a dig -x and whois on the IPs of anyone posting
through Google: You will invariably find that they are clients of
ISPs that offer Usenet access, and therefore have no need to be
posting through Google at all. Except the need to deceive...

news.individual.net is a favorite choice of trolls, because it
doesn't validate the names used by its clients, is free, and
doesn't post their IP addresses in the clear.
