VMWare is an application

Applications run either under an Operating System or under Windoze

The proposal was to install Linux under VMWare running under Windoze
then remove Windoze

VMWare is not an Operating System therefore if you remove the Operating
System (or Windoze) the application program - VMWare - will not start

I much more sensible approach would be to install Linux on the hard
drive without using VMWare to host it and to dual boot.

If you absolutely must continue to run Windoze on the machine where you
are evaluating Linux, then you might want to consider running Windoze
through VMWare under Linux - that way, when you want to get rid of
Windoze, you will only be getting rid of an application.
