There are so many choices for what you want these days. I'll give you a
few to start out with and you can read how they're used, etc. Most have
what are called offline blog clients or clients which don't depend on a
web browser to do the posting. The two I am most familiar with these
days are:
Wordpress - http://www.wordpress.org
MovableType - http://www.movabletype.org
There are numerous clients that will do these weblogs such as:
W.bloggar - http://www.wbloggar.com
Zempt - http://www.zempt.com
A linux one -
bloGTK - http://blogtk.sf.net
Now for which one will suit your purposes... The best way may be just to
try each. Get a feel for what each offers. Wordpress installs in about
5 minutes or so IF you satisfy the core requirements which include mysql
and PHP. MovableType takes a bit more work since it does some checking
on supported modules. Since you said keep it simple, I would try
WordPress. A test install can be done very quickly and you could see
within minutes if it suits.
