I have two similar machines... 2.4 ghz machine with 1 GB of RAM. One has
Mepis 3.3, the other Slackware 9.1
Often in Mepis I will drag a window and will see a 'streak' of black
lines... being the edges of the window.
In the new Acrobat 7.0 reader when I drag the scroll bar down on a long
document, I see a 'streak' of the font until I stop and then it renders.
I'm convinced that Mepis is just "not as fast" as Slackware is because I've
never seen this in Slack (although I have not installed 7.0 on the Slack
box.)
Perhaps the difference is that in Slack I have a compiled kernel. Would
this make a difference?
Al
