rebootin command

I remember a command to make the system reboot with a specified bootloader
option, so that you issue:

# rebootin linux2.4.18

and the system goes down for reboot to come up again with that selection.
This comes handy when you have to reboot while you are doing something else,
and don't want to wait for the bootloader to appear to set the desired OS
to load.
The problem is that i think this tool was under RedHat or Mandrake, is there
a way to write a script/program like that in other distros? (i'm using
gentoo)
