Bootable distaster!

I'm on a FC4T2 box, (dell 2400 dimension refurb). I used to be able to
boot fine with bootable linuxes(like knoppix, feather linux,
feather-on-a-usb), but that changed. AFter a certain point, bootable's
didn't work. Feather always reports "Total system memory: kB", and
Knoppix does the same, but continues. Any idea what the prob is? I need
these because I screwed up my Xorg.conf.
