Suse 9.1 and USB

I have an iRiver h320, which acts like an external USB drive. I added a line
to the fstab so when I plugged it in I could mount it with a simple
mount /mnt/h320. This worked fine.

Recently, Suse appears to have got it into it's head that it can do all this
for me automatically, and automounts it in /media/usb-storagexxxxxx. When
this happens, I am not able to mount it myself - get an error "/dev/sda1 is
not a valid block device".

Automounting would be better but for two things:
1) I don't know how to unmount it. Is it safe to simply disconnect the
device?

2) It frequently crashes the PC. Not just KDE, but the while thing. I've
never had that while manually mounting to /mnt/h320.

Why has Suse's behaviour changed? It never used to automount the h320, and I
would prefer that it wouldn't.

Cheers
Huw
