One would think MTBF and throughput are a function of the drive,
not the interface. A disk head scraping across a platter because
of mechanical jarring or a bit o' dust isn't going to make any
diff to the disk/cable/system interface, methinks.

As for reading -- the bits fly across the head at a more
or less fixed speed (the outer cylinders hold more data),
depending on drive geometry, not interface. The need for
"interleaving" drives (if you remember the old MFM and
RLL-era klunkers) are long gone.
