You are a complete idiot. Every major distro now supports the same
lame-brain usage of USB that that lame-brained OS, XP supports.

That was a choice I deliberately avoided when I installed gentoo (and
debian).

But now, I want partial automation of the mount.

Not the full, intrusive "automation" of XP USB, where, when you plug in
your dongle, you have to wait while "Windows is finding a driver for
your device" and "Windows has loaded the driver for your device" -- and
this happens everytime you plug in a dongle that is a different brand --
how fucked-up is that? -- and, once you have access to the device,
another freaking unwanted explorer Window pops up, and, finally, when
you want to stop using the device, you not only have to request the
unmount, just like in Linux, but you have acknowledge that it is "now
safe to unplug your device."

Even if you weren't completely mistaken about Linux USB support (where
have you been lately, pulling a Rip van Wrinkle or a year-long "lost
weekend"?), Linux would not be doomed, as its manifest progress on
practically all computer fronts well indicates.

The expostulations of an obvious out-of-touch doofus such as yourself
are mere ravings.

However, we do note that you like to be treated like an infant as you
use your operating system.

Are you some kind of 8-year-old prodigy, perhaps?

Then stick with the program.
