Well, I shouldn't rule out Europe too quickly as a 'us-satellite', after
all a big part of europe followed the us as 'ally' in the attacks on and
occupation of Iraq (but let's not start a f**king thread here :)

Yes, and maybe one way to fight it could be to set up a 'virtual patents'
site in which a lot of bright software inventors publish their ideas,
together with small examples showing their realisation in software, which
would be easily browsable en searchable by the white collars of the patent
offices, so they will have no excuse for awarding the asked silly patents.
