A USR 5610B is certainly an internal PCI modem. The best thing about it is
that it is a real modem, not a brain-damaged WinModem. I have had my 5610B
in continuous service for two years next March. Only problem with it is that
the line it is on is quite noisy, so it hangs up sometimes.

I wonder what the upgrade is. I had an older USR ISA modem, and there was a
firmware upgrade I installed in it (back in Windows 95 days) that speeded it
up from the original 22.8Kbits/second to 33.6Kbits/second.

I have another USR ISA modem in my old computer (still in there, but unused)
that worked fine from early 2000 until March 2004 when I networked it to my
new machine which IP forwards its stuff through the firewall to the
Internet, so I do not need the modem anymore. But it is probably not worth
the bother of taking it out and trying to sell it.

I could not find any other PCI non-Winmodem at the time I was building this,
and since I never had trouble with USR modems, that is what I got. I sure
have not upgraded the firmware of any modem I still have.
