There are plenty of HOWTOs addressing the issue of which you speak.
And there isn't any question of ntfs writing not being "reliable"! It
simply doesn't work except under very special conditions (unless you use
a very particular and new driver, or a host wrapper method that I don't
know ...) and never ever has.

That's good, but / and /home would have been the lazy arrangement
provided by the distro.
