Well, don't. Do it someplace you can check what is going on! Please be
exact about what is happening - you want to watch the entire sequence of
events as they happen in order to give meaningful information.

Good. It sounds like the shutdown sequence worked fine - though I'm
puzzled that enough of something was still running for the mouse
movement to still be visible. Why didn't X die? Maybe there's no
killall5 these days, and shutdown itself does the kill? No .. it should
be in S20sendsigs!
What does running that do?

Of course there is! Don't look in the manual for it, INSTALL it, THEN
look in the manual for it!
