What, did they remove GWBASIC from 'DozeXP? :-)

Today's typical user doesn't know *how* to program. Sad but true. When
I started using computers (Apple //c, w00t!) a lot of simple utilities
were written in BASIC. That sucked as a language, but it was relatively
easy to understand and could always be LISTed. One of the first things
my father did on that machine was write a simple text editor, because
the //c didn't *have* one. It was a bitty box with 64K address space
and no multitasking, but hey, you had complete control over its
hardware, and the manuals had a wealth of actual tech specs.

Now, there are tons of commercial and Free utilities out there to
satisfy almost every application need. So doing simple "normal user"
tasks doesn't require any programming, so few people learn it. It's
like cars--very few people are interested in fuel injection profiles or
how to replace spark plugs; they just want to get groceries and drive
the kids to school.
