Look at the various log files which are generated during startup. What I do
is actually print out the logs and then look at them one line at a time.
This is both an educational exercise for me learning more about Linux and
also a way to identify things which might be screwed up. For example, I
kept getting an error message about somthing wrong with /dev/sda1. After I
looked at the look it dawned on me (duh! -- inspirational moment) that sda1
is my digital camera and it like totally wasn't like plugged in .. like
duh!

Anyway, that's what the log files are for.

To stop scrolling when the system is booting you can use ^s and ^q .. at
least that is what works for me .. same as DOS 1.0 as I recall.
