<shrug> I don't have those discussions, generally -- nor debate guns,
religion, etc.

You started out talking about installing Knoppix. So, assuming that
indicated your predeliction, I pointed out the advantages of installing
KDE-based distributions that are generally similar (Debian-based,
KDE-oriented) but designed to install onto hard drives and be
subsequently maintained.

Had you started out talking about Red Hat Enterprise Linux, I'd have
applied the same variety of logic and informed you of the existence of
CentOS, etc. However, we didn't have that discussion, because you were
talking about Knoppix.

(Red Hat Linux as opposed to Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a dead product,
and actively dangerous to install in 2006, for lack of maintenance -- and
yes I'm aware of the Fedora Legacy Project's efforts, which have not
been sufficient.)

As it turns out, you're pretty much ignoring my advice, which is fine --
but should be aware that I recommend specifically against straight
Debian for Linux novices. Your logic about "relearning" is not
compelling in the least, as it turns out. (What "relearning"?) More at:
