Help Verify Runlevel 1 Multi-Process Capability

I am using Mandrake 9.2 and am having a problem getting an additional
process started in runlevel 1.
Apparently, when Mandrake goes to runlevel 1 it kills most of the
currently running processes and then executes (starts) an init script
called "/etc/init.d/single". This script checks for any other runlevel
1 start scripts and runs them and then preforms an init -t1 S.
In actuallity, what happens is it executes the "single" script, then
executes my additional script, and then init's to single user mode,
which sends the SIGHUP and SIGKILL signals, killing my additional
script momentarily started before the call to init Single User mode.
Does anyone know if this is a bug and/or if there is a work around for
starting additional scripts in runlevel 1 with a Mandrake type
distribution? I've tried rc.local and did not find any success with
it.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone would help veryify this is an
issue.
Thank you for your assitance.
Rspectfully,
Gary
