PCM volume not working

Hi

I'm running an FC3 on my Dell laptop with an Intel 82801DB-ICH4 sound
card. I'm using ALSA v1.0.9rc2

My problem is that chaning PCM volume has no effect to my sound output.

I checked this with

$ mpg321 song.mp3 &
$ amixer set PCM 100 unmute
$ amixer set PCM 0 mute

and the song just plays on. Only

$ amixer set Master 100 unmute
$ amixer set Master 0 mute

affects sound volume.

It worked a few days ago but it doesn't now. I don't know what is
wrong or what I did. not having pcm is very painful because I can't
control volume through programs like mplayer without it.

Please advise.
