2) Why does cdrecord report speed 2.0 if you passed it speed=1?That's curious isn't it. Maybe there is a minimum speed.
Yes, there is. But remember, DVD 2x ~= CD 16x.
3) shouldn't you specify the device with dev=/dev/cdrecorder ratherThis works fine for CDs
than --dev=ATA... Don't know if it makes a difference.
I've had terrible luck using anything but "dev=/dev/hdX". YMMV.
4) Probably most importantly, you didn't tell mkisofs about udf. SeeWhy would I want to use udf? That's for video, I'm just trying to
the -udf or -dvd-video options. I've never tried to write iso9660 on a
dvd, so I don't know for sure if it matters or not.
backup some data.
You know that ISO9660 stores file sizes in signed 32-bit ints, right?
Also, it may be that less intelligent OSes expect a DVD to contain UDF and
can't easily handle an ISO9660 DVD. I can't tell for sure; my 'Doze
machine at work has a DVD-ROM, but it apparently can't read DVD+R discs
burned with growisofs. I tried ISO and UDF DVD+Rs, no dice either way.
The size of the ISO that I was trying to write is 1.3G so I don't think my
problem is due to a 32 bit limit. Besides aren't the pointers all 2K
sector pointers not byte pointers? 2G * 2K is 4Tbytes which won't be a
problem for a long time, Blu-Ray is only 50G bytes, we'll need X-Ray
before a DVD can store 4TBytes.
I'm just trying to burn a DVD that can be read with FC4, I don't care if
Windows can read it.
