Maybe you should change the Debian box to 192.168.1.18?

Hello, I modified the content of the file /etc/network/interfaces as
following. After reboot, I can read the ip 192.169.1.18 from the output
of ifconfig. But I still can not use this ip 192.169.1.18 in putty to
login successfully. This dejects me.

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.169.1.18
network 192.169.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.169.1.1
broadcast 192.169.1.255

The network configuration of my Windows PC keeps unchanged.

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
