How do you propose building an RPM for Debian, Slackware or other distros
that are not inherently RPM-based?
'man alien' perhaps?
The pedantic answer is that alien builds a Slackware .tgz package, not
an RPM. ;-)
The practical answer is that I've found that rpms converted by alien
to tgz don't work well (or at all), though I haven't tried this in some
time. But I still don't think it's a good idea--either provide source
code with a standard autoconf build process, or build a native package
for each of the distros you wish to support. If the latter is too much
work, then the former is obviously the best option.
