linux on a PLC?

Does anyone know if it it possible to run linux on a PLC? The CPUs in
PLCs run slowly - 5-20 MHz, but seem to have all of the stuff needed to
run a regular OS...

I'm looking for a proof-of-concept or at least some documentation on such
a beast...
