An attempted downgrade of glibc from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5 (because of network
problems) using rpm --oldpackage has gone badly wrong. If I try and start
anything, even ls, I get
-bash: /bin/ls: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file
or directory
Can the system be rescued?
Sure, boot from rescue CD/etc and "relocate" packages using rpm.
Thanks. Unfortunately the system is located a few thousand miles away
in my daughter's residence, so I'm going to ask you to verify that I'm
interpreting your suggestion correctly: boot from a rescue CD, fsck the
partitions (the box had to be switched off), mount the partitions, cd to
where the RPMs are, and then do
rpm -U --noscripts --replacepkgs --relocate /=<root mountpoint> rpms
It may be easier to just upgrade to FC5. Would an upgrade fsck dirty
partitions automatically?
