Sound Problems with Suse 10
- From: paul_a_bennett@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello!
I've been running a Suse 10 system quite satisfactorily for quite a
while now. I had installed a Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE card along with the
ivtv driver. While I knew that the driver worked, I could never get
mplayer to work with it. I resolved that this was the weekend on which
I was going to get it going. And I did. Now, video capture and
display works famously.
There's only one problem.
Somehow, in mucking around, I seem to have completely hosed all sound
capabilities on my machine.
I have no idea what I might have done. However, in attempting to
rectify the proplem, I've been poking around just about everywhere I
can think of.
At one point, the /dev/dsp and associated files had disappeared. I did
a 'MAKEDEV audio' to restore them. Unfortunatlely, things still aren't
right. Audacity no longer complains that it can't open the /dev/dsp
but it seems to neither receive nor output anything.
I'm hoping someone might be able to guide me in fixing my problem. One
possibility might be to find the one thing I don't know about. The
alternative might be to tell me how I can completely reinstall my audio
system without having to reinstall the rest of my system.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
For what it's worth:
