Re: Install suse and remove Redhat/Windows Me

In comp.os.linux.misc mike <mikaelpetterson@xxxxxxxxxxx>:
Hi,

I have been using a dual boot system with Windows Me and Redhat 8.0
(old version).
I am not very happy with either system ( especially Windows Me that
makes my Computer to crash.

AFAIR this is a feature!

I am trying to install SUSE 10.0 ( evaluation version). System manages
to boot from CD ( #1).
I get the install with YAST. I select language and the I select 'new
install' and then system reboots. I have tried this a number of times
but every time I click 'new install' the system reboots.

Presuming the system isn't that new/fast, I'd suggest to use
something else then suse, it happens to be dog slow. Debian tends
to outperform anything else and with a little RAM it runs KDE
even on older systems just fine.

You'd get better help if you give some information about the
system, CPU/RAM/etc.

Any ideas are very much appreciated.

I'd try testing with some live CD (known to boot almost anything
(Knoppix/etc) if the system is fine, not that you have some
hardware problem. What about the box you are typing on? Dunno why
people tend to install Linux quite often just on some sucking old
box, to slow to run the latest whizzbang doze and wonder that it
doesn't work that fast, especially with a bloated distro + wm?

Good luck
