Looking for an application to draw scientific images

Hey guys,

I am currently working on a paper about database integration systems, and I need to draw several architectural images. I installed Dia because it was the only program I knew which was supposed to do something like this, but I'm not happy with it (the cliparts look terrible, and don't really fit my needs).

Is there another tool which you would suggest?
