Re: Memtest test suite

Hi,

Has anyone run memtest? We downloaded from:
http://carpanta.dc.fi.udc.es/~quintela/memtest/

That is not where to get it, at least for Intel *86 processors. I get mine
direct from http://www.memtest86.com/

When we manually run shm-stress, we got the following message:
$ ./shm-stress
./shm-stress: error while loading shared libraries:
libstdc++.so.6:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You will not get that with the real memtest86, since it is entirely
self-contained. You would not even need a working hard drive on your machine
to run it, much less a libstdc++.

On my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 system, the library is there:

$ locate libstdc++.so.6
/lib/ssa/libstdc++.so.6.0.0
/lib/ssa/libstdc++.so.6

but to get it, you must have Linux running. If you are testing your memory,
it may be that your memory is not working correctly and that is why your
other test program cannot find it. Or you may have a distro too old (or too
new) to have the required library.

In this case, do we need to re-compile the source code? We did a
recompilation by typing the command:
$make -f Makefile

However, I got problem re-compiling the source code. Any hints would be
highly appreciated! Many thanks!

Sure. Use the real memtest86. Download the .iso version of the program and
burn it to a CD-R. (It will fit on a floppy, but I distrust them and they do
not last very long.)

The author of this program accepts financial contributions (though he does
not require one), and I suggest if you find it useful you contribute.
