about using a very recent source version for alsa. Make sure you have
booted the kernel you want to use with alsa, then consider compiling each
package using scripts similar to these:
http://www.slackware.at/data/slackware-current/source/l/alsa-driver/alsa-driver.SlackBuild
http://www.slackware.at/data/slackware-current/testing/source/alsa-lib/alsa-lib.SlackBuild
At the very least you could study these scripts as a starting point.
IMO, these scripts are valuable and could help you avoid some common
pitfalls, etc.
