Re: Leafnode filtering issue

In comp.os.linux.misc Schraalhans Keukenmeester <firstname_DOT_lastname_AT_xs4all_DOT_nl>:
I have recently set up leafnode on my FC4 system, I yum'ed the FC4 rpm,
version leafnode-1.11.3-2.fc4

[..]

I have the following contents in /etc/leafnode/filters
(root rw-:news r--):

^Newsgroups:.*[, ]alt.usenet.kooks$
^Newsgroups:.*[, ]alt.usenet.kooks,
^Newsgroups:.*[, ]rec.arts.marching.drumcorps$
^Newsgroups:.*[, ]rec.arts.marching.drumcorps,
^NNTP-Posting-Host:.*193.194.84.198
^X-Trace:.*pomoranche.gu.net

Running applyfilter on c.o.l.m. yields:
#applyfilter -v comp.os.linux.misc
try_lock(timeout=300), fqdn="eniac.xs4all.nl"
wrote active file with 55465 lines
0 articles deleted, 1219 kept.
Updating .overview file

And there still are messages in the group matching the filter rules.
man applyfilter hasn't shed any new light on this for me.

I don't understand why the filters aren't applied properly. Any ideas
what's wrong in my setup ? And do I understand correctly the filters
should be applied automatically when fetchnews runs ?

Seems fine so far, since applyfilter didn't catch anything it
looks like there was nothing (anymore) to match, which rule
didn't work out?.

Are you sure there are still articles in you spool matching the
above? Did you look with 'grep' directly into your spool? Or are
they just in your nntp reader?

If yes, many nntp will not catch that, but have still those
articles at least in the overview cached. You need to unsubscribe
from the group and subscribe again, perhaps even stopping your
nntp reader. Though others, like tin are perfectly capable of
handling things on their own.

Good luck
