Good to know!
Debian has a lot of future potential, and the apt-get is easy to
use, but dependency hell goes on and Ubuntu soured me on more Debian in
general.
Funny, I never figured out Debian, and the various derivatives Ubuntu,
Knoppix confuse me.
I didn't find Debian hard to learn or anything, but the distros with
Synaptic got on my nerves. I haven't tried any RPM based distros yet
to see if they work better then debs.

Slightly puzzled by that, how does it get on your nerves?
Given that it's one of the best GUI package management tools, my feeling is
that may be you are on a hiding to nothing with linux. Just a thought.
Anyway does apt-get also get on your nerves?
You said that you didn't like Ubuntu in another post. Did you try any of the
other window managers that are also available in that distro? You can
install KDE, or install kubuntu. It also comes with Fluxbox, Enlightenment,
Blackbox, (probable IceWM although I haven't checked) and XFce.
May be something like Mandriva is more to your tastes?
I presume distrowatch.com does nothing to help you narrow down your search?
