Re: fedora core 5 - monitor refresh rate

On Monday 22 May 2006 02:09, noemail12000@xxxxxxxxx stood up and spoke
the following words to the masses in /comp.os.linux.misc...:/

Hi All!
how can I change refresh rate for my monitor? what config files do I
need to change?

If Fedora Core uses /X.Org/ as it's X Window System, then look for a
file called */etc/xorg.conf* or possibly */etc/X11/xorg.conf* - I'm not
sure on the exact file placement in Fedora Core. The file may be a
symlink to another file, but that's not important.

If on the other hand it uses /XFree86,/ the file will be in the same
location but will be called /XF86Config/ or /XF86Config-4./

It is possible - I have only ever briefly sat at a FC installation when
I got this machine and I didn't like it so I removed it from my machine
- that FC has graphical set-up utilities for your /X11/ server. If
not, you'll have to manually edit the applicable file mentioned higher
in this post.

You'll have to adjust the modeline for your monitor, which is a bit
tricky. However, there is a utility that will help you select the
right modeline, which you can then (manually) enter in the file.
You'll have to restart the /X11/ server after having made the changes.

This utility is called /xvidtune./ You start it from within a
commandline terminal, and it has a /man/ page to tell you its options.

where can I see settings which are loaded ?

/xvidtune/ can show you the current settings - see the /man/ page for
details. Another (very obvious) method of viewing what the current
refresh rates are is to press the configuration button of your monitor.
It should have an on-screen display which will tell you the resolution,
horizontal and vertical synchronization and refresh rates.

Hope this helps... ;-)
