In comp.os.linux.misc Jacek <jacek@xxxxxxxx>:
Hi all,
I have a problem with telnet. I have copiled kernel 2.6.7 with unix98 ptys.
Why would you want to use such an old kernel? What was wrong with
the distro provided? I'd suggest starting with the .config
provided by your distro kernel and a recent 2.6 version and see
how this works out.
I have created /dev/pts directory and I've started telnetd daemon but I cant
telnet to this. When I create character devices /dev/pts/0, /dev/pts/1 I'am
able to connect but after each telnet session next device is choosen for
example:
telnet <ip> - on linux /dev/pts/0 is used
Why would you want to use telnet? It's insecure and depreciated
since ages. Use ssh/scp instead which is usually provided per
default by your distro. You can download putty/winscp for free as
pretty good ssh/scp clients for M$-Windows.
Good luck
