I read the man page for ld the same, that it should work if
you put it in this file. ldconfig -v even shows libICE.
However, it doesn't work. Even compiling a simple hello
world -lICE (no other compiler options) results in the same
error unless an explicit -L/usr/X11R6/lib is used.
I don't know about the package you are using, but there's
usually a way to add options to gcc/ld with switches when
running the configure script.
