Into whatever directory you want.

A number of places use /opt as a holding bin for manually installed software.

However, if you are using a Linux distribution that's managed by a package manager, such as RPM or APT, installing warez by hand is fraught with danger. Everyone who does this eventually regrets it. It may happen a few years down the road, but at some point you will regret doing so, once random programs on your machine begin randomly crashing, and your Linux box reaches the stability of Windows.
