where do you draw the line? I see jobs postings in all kinds of
inappropriate newsgroups, posting about jobs that don't even have even
a tenuous connection with the charter or primary subject of a newsgroup.

Years ago, I gave up reading misc.jobs.misc for exactly that reason: such
complete and intransigent ignorance about charters and netiquette by this
pack of pimps, liars, and thieves. The charter of mjm was (still might be
for all I know) very clear: a group for general discussion ABOUT jobs and
the workplace--not a dumping ground to LIST job openings.

I understand very clearly what you say about these dolts. I made it clear
with the company I worked for at the time: you're doing us and especially
the HR folks a big favor putting anybody who posts job LISTINGS in Usenet
DISCUSSION groups on a blacklist from gitgo.

One headhunter was so upset with my POLITE requests to respect the Usenet
norms in place that some very ugly things about my company were said. The
posting got forwarded to our HR/legal folks pronto. Never heard from that
slithering reptile in email or on Usenet again.

I made up my mind then: very few headhunters are worth the time and money
from either the employer or potential candidate perspective. There may be
a few, but they'll to have to bust their ass to gain my trust again.
