Re: can knoppix go to harddisk completely?

well, i have actually done this before. ( installed to harddisk )
But recently I read that a knoppix install doesn't copy over
all of the goodies (kernel modules) that are on the CD
( As probably advised by the developers themselves! ).

I'm not sure if its true, but I want to install the DVD which should
give me about 8 Gigs of software. Or will it ?

If you haven't already seen it, you might want to look at the following page in the Knoppix wiki:

<http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Knoppix_Installer>

Briefly, there are three types of installs:

Knoppix: Puts the CD contents on the hard disk, but otherwise works as the CD. In particular, there is only one user: 'knoppix'. However, you can add software (e.g., with 'apt-get').

Debian: Installs to the hard disk, based on the results of the Knoppix HW detection, which is then removed. Closest to a "standard" Debian installation.

Beginner: Like Debian, but retains the HW deteection at start-up.

I'm not sure, but in the case of a Debian install, modules that are not needed for your hardware may be omitted.
