Re: Where from Konqueror knows the country I'm in?

following words to the masses in /comp.os.linux.misc...:/

For the record, /Konqueror/ does always open up /google.be/ here -
I'm in the Flanders, Belgium. However, my system is set up with
English as the main language, both systemwide and in the GUI part of
my user account - other locales are installed for other accounts.

Clicking "Google in English" does work here, and I use /Konqueror/
almost exclusively.

So you have the same feature, except that it represent a problem for
me. if you try any mozilla web browser you'll notice that you could
get google in English.

As a follow-up, I've noticed something odd... After your post, I took
the test and fired up /Konqueror,/ which uses /google.be/ as its
opening page - when used as a webbrowser of course.

I clicked the "Google in English", which did what it said. The URL in
the address bar still showed http://www.google.be but the page was now
in English, as were the buttons.

I then closed /Konqueror/ again, but as I fired it up again later on, I
noticed that it defaulted to using the English version of that Google
page, whereas it would normally default to the Dutch version - we speak
Dutch in The Flanders, in case you didn't know.

Of course, as my locality is set to Belgium, /Konqueror/ _will_ normally
default to calling upon /google.be/ rather than upon /google.com,/ but
it *is* possible to surf to /google.com./

The bottom line is that if all of this is possible on my system - my KDE
is currently still at version 3.1.3 here - it /should/ also be possible
on your system. Unless your mileage really varies, of course... ;-)
