I am not using serial cables i am using some a RF modem that would take
care of that.

I am looking for an application which I think I may need to code myself
that is transparent to applications. Any application talks to this
"object" via IP and then instead of going out over IP it goes out
over a serial link. PPP works great for this, but as far as I can tell
PPP will only work with two "nodes". I would need it to work with
many nodes. It would be great if something was already developed but I
have looked and haven't seen any. If someone knows of something then
please let me know. As for writing this object myself, I don't know
how to do it. I can program in C/C++ well and I have research some, and
have found that the tun/tap device much be something I am need to use.
But I can't seem to find any good coding example on how to use it.
So if someone could give me some suggestions and or point me in the
direction to go I would really appreciate it.

How are you thinking to build the multi-drop
serial link electrically, so that multiple
transmitters will not be connected together?

The electrical nature of a standard serial link
(usually calles RS-232) is plain point-to-point.
