Re: live distro for testing

I saw those specific distros like IpCop or Endian... but they're very
small and dedicated, while I prefer to get a bigger distro with more
stuff I can work with in it, I'm now downloading the dvd image of
Knoppix5, what do you think?

Thanks, Marco

Ditto.

There's basically two choices - a "real" firewall ( usually dedicated
appliance ) or a PC running an OS like Linux and running
firewall software.

the advantage of an appliance is that it is small, quiet, and
generally very secure since it runs from ROM ( no disks ).

however the latter can work and be quite secure if you use a read-only
boot media ( i.e. boot from CD ). that way you can't be hacked.

Otherwise make sure that you scrupulously keep up with all
patches and security upgrades and that you have everything set up as well
as possible at the outset ( i.e exactly the same as any OS).
