Also, is there a way to send e-mail from the command line? I use Bell
Sympatico and they have an ESMTP server which doesn't work with the
MTAs I have tried. sendmail doesn't work on my installation. I could
continue to try to get sendmail to work if it is the only way.

You just need to configure your local MTA to use Bell's server as a
"smarthost". You *might* also need to configure your local MTA to
authenticate itself (i.e., provide your Sympatico user name and password
to the mail server) in order for it to work.

It's been a while, but I do know (from first hand experience) that it
can be done with Sympatico. While I used Exim, I'm sure any popular MTA
can be appropriately configured---including sendmail.

My current NewsReader [pan] doesn't email and I guess it wants to use
sendmail [which is running] and pan assumes port 25. So how to test
sendmail ? How would I START setting-up sendmail ?
