Help--cdrecord won't blank cdrws

I'm running Debian Etch, recently installed on a Dell Optiplex GX750
with an LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10N cd/dvd rw drive.
My kernel is the stock 2.6.12-1-386 that currently ships with Etch.
cdrecord successfully burns audio cdrws (I've only tried burning audio
cds to date). However, it will not blank burned audio cds at all.
Neither will cdrdao. I have attempted all the possible blanking options,
reduced the speed, run as root--in short, tried every workaround mentioned
in the docs and in the newsgroups. No joy. The output from cdrecord
is at the bottom of this post.
I don't know what factors might be causing the problem, so here's
everything I can think of:
-
The tracks (audio only) were ripped from a DVD with
mplayer dvd://
using the options
-chapter <n-n>
-quiet
-vo null
-vc dummy
-af resample=44100:0:1
-ao pcm:waveheader:file=audio (where "audio" is a fifo)
and piped to lame, which used the options
--preset fast standard audio <filename>.mp3
to encode the audio from the chapters as mp3s.
Burning was done from k3b (KDE burning frontend) using cdrecord
with its bog-standard k3b defaults.
The medium I burned onto was a Maxell 80min/700Mb cd-rw.
Has anyone any idea why I cannot blank these burned cds? An oddity
I've experienced is that cdrecord will, in fact, "blank" unburned cds
without barfing.
Here's the output from cdrecord when I try to blank a cd:
