I install mplayer and its GUI.
mplayer works well, but gmplayer doesn't.

And what options do you run gmplayer *with*? what is the *exact*
message? What command line do you use for mplayer when it works? What
output from mplayer do you get if just mplayer <file> Try reading man
mplayer as well, that's what man is for.
