I'm working with automation and am trying to find a universal Linux
command that will display which flavor or Linux I am dealing with. For

I tried using 'uname', but none of the switches display the OS nice
name.

My question is:

1. Is there such a command which displays the OS nice name? (SUSE, Red
Hat, etc..)
2. If not, does anyone know another way of distinishing between OS
flavor in a univeral manner?

Thanks,

Universal is a big word, but you might try

cat /etc/*-release
