There's a difference between partitions and subdevices.

For each physical SCSI device, there can be no more than 15 partitions
defined under Linux. Period. That limit has existed for many years,
and it can make a big difference to folks with very large SCSI drives
(which may have 16 or more partitions present).

The Linux kernel simply cannot address anything beyond /dev/sdx15.

Don't confuse SCSI with IDE devices. While the nomenclature is quite
similar (/dev/hdx versus /dev/sdx), the limitations in the kernel with
regard to each are decidedly *not* the same.
